At Virgin Mobile we are committed to giving you objective and independent information about the issues that surround mobile phones and health.

Although most experts have concluded that there is no hard evidence to suggest that mobile phones and base stations do not pose a health risk, it is a subject that continues to attract widespread concern among consumers, and Virgin Mobile recognises these concerns.

All the handsets in Virgin Mobile’s range are designed not to exceed the limits for exposure to radio frequency (RF) which are recommended by international guidelines. These ICNIRP guidelines were developed by independent scientific organisations through periodic and thorough evaluation of scientific studies.

Several scientific studies have been undertaken into mobile phones and health. The most comprehensive study to have taken place in the UK was the independent Stewart Report. An expert group, set up by the National Radiological Protection Board under the chairmanship of Sir William Stewart, conducted this rigorous assessment of existing research and published its findings in May 2000. An important conclusion of the Stewart Report was that ‘the balance of evidence does not suggest that emissions from mobile phones and base stations put the health of the UK population at risk.’ (Foreword)

In January 2005 Sir William Stewart published an update to the report, reiterating his view that although there was no scientific evidence consumers should continue to adopt a precautionary approach to the use of mobile phones. Read this update.
