Virgin Mobile picked up its first piece of silverware this week at the Advanced Card Awards held in London. The category of best new product marketing campaign 2000 was won by the Virgin Xtras service available on all Virgin Mobile phones.
The Advanced Card Awards is the UK's premier awards programme, recognising excellence and innovation in the smart and advanced card industry. Virgin Mobile was also shortlisted for a number of other awards out of the 12 announced, including most innovative product and best communications application of 2000.
Virgin Mobile's 32K SIM card tool kit - the largest memory SIM card available on any UK mobile phone network - enables customers to access the unique Virgin Xtras service. You can do anything from booking holidays to listening to and ordering CDs - all at money-saving discounts.
By dialling Virgin Xtras from a Virgin Mobile, deals include a 10 per cent discount on any Virgin Sun or Virgin Holiday, 15 per cent off CD purchases over £20 and a special offer from the RAC breakdown service, Red. Britain's first mobile jukebox, information on going out or staying in and traffic and travel updates are also all part of the Virgin Xtras service.
Virgin Mobile spokesman Steven Day comments: "We always knew that Virgin Mobile was going to be a success with consumers. But it is satisfying to see that the industry is also recognising Virgin Mobile's innovations. We are confident this award will be the first of many."
