V.Successful - Sales Mount for Virgin Mobile

04/04/2000

After a successful launch and Christmas period, Virgin Mobile's inroad to Britain's mobile phone market continues. Sales figures for the first quarter of this year, released today exceeded expectations and show that the company is well on track to meet its sales target of one million customers by the end of the year.

Since it launched in November of last year, Virgin Mobile has attracted 231,598 customers (net - 12/11/99 - 31/03/00). In the first quarter of this year 120,895 people have become Virgin Mobile customers adding to the 110,703 who connected to the company following its launch in November 1999.

Chairman Sir Richard Branson said, "I'm delighted with the news. The figures speak for themselves, we are doing extremely well. Our cheap calls and revolutionary reducing tariff are proving popular with consumers. This, coupled with the additional discounts customers can receive on holidays and music through our Xtras service, means that we are confident of achieving a reputation of the most popular mobile brand in Britain."
