04/12/2000

Virgin Mobile has this week announced the appointment of several new employees. The appointments come in the same month that the company celebrated its first birthday, notched up over 500,000 customers, and boosted the number of its retail outlets to over 3,540, including WH Smiths, JS Sainsbury and Co-op.

Working under Graeme Hutchinson, sales director, Russell Sizer has been appointed as head of direct sales, and is now responsible for website and customer centre sales, working with third parties to develop affinity partnership programmes. His previous role was as the head of value added services at Barclaycard.

Tony Brookes has been appointed as head of business development. Tony previously worked as deputy general manager of BT's business, travel and retail sector. Further additions to the sales department include Louise Richards, as retail account manager, Fiona Cooke as channel marketing manager and Helen Hogben as national retail account manager.

In the marketing department, Victoria Sandeman-Allen has been appointed as product manager, recruited from Portable Audio where she was senior product manager. Clyde Collins and Emma Roberts have been taken on as marketing assistants; Emma's most recent position was team leader with Virgin Mobile customer centre, further strengthening the marketing team. Felicity Cardew and Marianne Hewitt have also been appointed to join the Virgin Mobile brand team.

Comments Tom Alexander, managing director of Virgin Mobile: 'We are now moving into the next phase of Virgin Mobile's growth. With the company's first year success, and future development planned, we are investing heavily in recruitment to aid in all areas of our business's expansion.'
