V2001 set for a scorcher!

17/04/2001

Today Virgin Mobile announces its headline sponsorship of this year's V2001 festival over the weekend of 18/19 August at Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in Staffordshire.

Virgin Mobile has lined up a huge programme of exciting activity over both sites. The biggest attraction for all festival-goers at V2001 will be the Virgin Mobile Park which will feature a variety of themed trailers, including a DJ trailer which will be the epicentre of the village's all-day party.

Virgin Mobile customers at V2001 will have privileged access to a range of VIP extras on site, including free food, drink and merchandise. For those lucky festival-goers only , Virgin Xtras will supply exclusive on-site gossip, line-up and weather information over the weekend. How's that for a great reception?

V2001, which is the sixth year of the award-winning festival series, has again attracted some of the world's biggest-selling and high-profile bands, including the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Coldplay, Texas and David Gray.

James Kydd, Brand Director for Virgin Mobile, said:

"Too many companies use their sponsorship of an event as an excuse to shamelessly stick their logo everywhere, which detracts from what a festival is all about and leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

Virgin has always seen the V festivals as a chance to enhance the festival experience as opposed to exploiting it. With Virgin Mobile as sole title sponsor for V2001, we've got loads of activity on site which will help make the festival truly memorable."

Siemens is the official handset partner for V2001 and will be involved in Virgin Mobile's on-site activity at the event, as well as showcasing new products.

Virgin Mobile:

Virgin Mobile is now established as the most successful virtual network operator in the world. Since its launch in November 1999 it has attracted nearly 900,000 customers making it one of the fastest growing mobile phone companies ever.

Virgin Mobile is a 50:50 joint venture company between Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group and Deutsche Telekom's One 2 One, and is the UK's first mobile virtual operator.

It has scored a number of firsts, including being the first operator to scrap peak rate calls, introduce a daily discounting tariff and was the first company in the world to introduce an integrated MP3 mobile phone.

In the UK, Virgin Mobile phones are available direct on 0845 6000 600; on the web at www.virgin.com/mobile; or on the High Street at over 3000 outlets including Virgin Megastores, Our Price, V Shops and in supermarkets such as Asda and Sainsbury.

Virgin has already taken the brand overseas with Virgin Mobile (Australia), a partnership with Cable and Wireless Optus, which opened for business at the end of October 2000. A similar joint-venture between Virgin and Singapore Telecom will see the launch of Virgin Mobile (Asia) in summer 2001. The global Virgin Mobile brand is also expected to launch in the USA and Europe within two years.
