Trowbridge-based telecommunications company continues to expand
Virgin Mobile, the UK's fifth network, announced today that it is to create 100 new jobs as part of its continued and rapid expansion. Virgin Mobile's ongoing success is bucking the trend seen in the rest of the telecommunications industry, which has seen a marked slowdown in recent months.
The new jobs will be based at Virgin Mobile's headquarters in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, taking staff numbers at the company to just under 1,400 employees. The majority of positions are in the firm's customer centre, which deals with thousands of calls a day from people all over the country. The recruitment drive coincides with the run up to Christmas, the mobile industry's busiest time of year.
Virgin Mobile is currently enjoying rapid growth, and became profitable for the first time last month; the fastest mobile network to move into profitability in the UK. Virgin Mobile now has more than one million customers, and is among the fastest growing telecoms companies in the world; it is also the most successful 'virtual network' in history.
The company particularly hopes to attract local people who might have been made redundant from another employer recently, or mothers returning to work; anyone who might enjoy flexible working hours, a friendly, family atmosphere, good pay and membership of the Virgin Group Tribe staff discount scheme, among many other benefits!
Said Tom Alexander, chief executive of Virgin Mobile: "In less than two years, our company has grown from scratch to being one of the largest employers in West Wiltshire - and we will continue to expand. Our staff have a great environment in which to flourish and enjoy their careers - and we look forward to welcoming 100 new people to Virgin Mobile soon."
Virgin Mobile is also in discussions with Virgin Atlantic Airways to explore the possibility of recruiting some of the staff being made redundant there following the downturn in the aviation industry.
