Virgin Mobile Kicks Off World Cup 2002

20/02/2002

  • Up-to-the-minute audio content via the 4321 voice portal service

  • Exclusive text alerts to VirginXtras customers

This summer, Virgin Mobile will be going football crazy in its support of World Cup 2002. Virgin Mobile already offers a text message alert service to customers of the VirginXtras suite of value-added services, which include half-time and full time football results, news, league tables, and interviews. Similar results services are charged for by most of Virgin Mobile’s rival networks and mobile services providers. However Virgin Mobile’s portfolio of premiership and Nationwide League football services are free all year round, along with lottery results, horoscopes, sports and entertainment services.

During the World Cup, users of Virgin Mobile’s football text alert service will also receive SMSes informing them of the biggest and most exciting World Cup interviews, which they can access via the 4321* voice portal service.

Virgin Mobile’s revolutionary 4321 audio-on-demand service, launched in November 2001, and still the only speech-activated voice portal offered by a network, will boast a wealth of exclusive World Cup content. This content will include interviews with Premiership-based players from all competing countries, plus world stars from other leagues.

Virgin Mobile will have reporters attending the World Cup, providing content through Sportsmedia, and will have unrivalled access to services containing comment, analysis, updates and exclusive interview content. This means instant access to the top stars!

The content on a typical World Cup Day will be bang up-to-date, updated throughout the day with Previews, Reports, News, Gossip and Interviews. The service allows customers to really get involved in the World Cup without being there - hear all the build-up to games, after-match analysis and interviews straight from the players involved – it really is the next best thing to flying to Japan!

Virgin Mobile will be sending SMS alerts to customers as soon as big interviews become available, as follows:

“1966 Part 2 here we come – hear all about England’s great start to the tournament from Sven Goran Eriksson! Just dial 4320 to hear all about it.”

“Hear what David Beckham said after his 14-goal slaughter of the Germans in the final. Just dial 4320 to hear all about it.”

So for those football fans who aren’t going to be brushing up on their Japanese skills this summer, they simply need to dial 4321 and just say the word!
