Virgin Mobile sponsors V Festival for third year

19/03/2002

Virgin Mobile is headline sponsor for V2002 - Europe’s leading music festival

On the strength of last year’s success at V2001, Virgin Mobile today announced its headline sponsorship of this year’s V2002 festival over the weekend of 17-18th August at Hylands Park in Chelmsford and Weston Park in Staffordshire. This is the festival’s seventh year and is expected to be the biggest and most successful event of its kind, attracting over 150,000 revellers.

Virgin Mobile’s final plans for the biggest event in the UK music calendar are a closely guarded secret but, like V2001, Virgin Mobile will have a huge programme of exciting activity over both sites. These include:

  • ‘Text the Fest’: send text messages to huge screens either side of the main V stage. Last year, there were over 25,000 messages sent including jokes, limericks, love messages, and some rather risqué sentiments. Some of the text highlights from last year can be found below*.

  • Free music and event information sent to people’s mobile phones, in the run up to and throughout the weekend. Simply register at www.vfestivals.com

  • Trial of the latest phones available

  • Free phone re-charging facilities

  • VIP facilities for Virgin Mobile customers

V2002, has again attracted some of the world’s biggest-selling and high profile bands, including the Stereophonics, Travis, Groove Armada, Chemical Brothers, Primal Scream, Supergrass and Badly Drawn Boy.

Tickets for the event go on sale on 23 March 2002 and there will be a priority booking line for previous visitors.

James Kydd, Brand Director at Virgin Mobile, said: “The V festivals have become an essential part of the British live music calendar. As sponsors, we concentrate on giving the festival goer added value, we don’t just plaster our logo on every passing tree. This year we will be doing more than ever.”
