Today Virgin Mobile, the UK’s fifth network is launching a new, alternative method for pre-pay mobile phone customers to credit their accounts. It’s called Electronic Top Up or E Top Up.
How does it work?
Customers are given a swipe card so they can credit their account instantly. The cards come pre-registered to the customer, so all they have to do is hand over the E Top Up card to a retailer who offers the service with Virgin Mobile, tell the retailer how much airtime they’d like and then pay! They will be given a receipt showing the transaction, and the airtime will be credited to their phone.
With E Top Up, you can top up from as little as £5 to as much as £100 a time. Just pick how much credit you want, available in increments of £5, and ask the store assistant, then pay for it however you like.
Where is E Top Up available?
Over the course of this week customers will be able to buy airtime using an E Top Up card at any one of 27,000 outlets, wherever they see the green E Top Up logo. As well as many high street retailers, it’s available in petrol stations, grocery stores, and even corner shops around the country.
Over the next couple of months Virgin Mobile will be able to offer E Top Up in over 42,000 outlets. Including in the near future, The Carphone Warehouse and The Link.
How does the customer benefit?
1. More flexibility in terms of the amounts a customer can top up (including a £5 top up amount)
2. Security – if someone steals the top up card, all they can do with it is put money on the customer’s phone! Whereas an unused voucher can be used by any Virgin Mobile customer
3. Its easier to top up – there’s no risk of the retailer being out of stock of vouchers
4. Makes the Virgin Mobile flextariff even more flexible. Customers can now pay by voucher, E Top Up, credit card, debit card or monthly Direct Debit
5. Increased availability at places and times when customers run out of credit (greater convenience).
Steven Day, corporate affairs director at Virgin Mobile, said: “In an age where people want to be in touch around the clock, we need to find new ways of making sure our customers can always access airtime. The introduction of E Top Up for Virgin Mobile’s customers is another quick, easy and appealing way for them to top-up from using vouchers or credit/debit card. There’s no doubt it will be a popular way to pay.”
Customers can get hold of an E Top Up card by either www.virgin.com/mobile or calling our team on 789 from their Virgin Mobile phone, or 0845 6000 789 from a landline.
