Virgin Mobile to sponsor the broadcast of V2002 on ITV2

11/07/2002

ITV2 is to screen the Virgin Mobile-sponsored V2002, one of the year’s biggest music festivals, after signing a deal with Fuji International Productions and Wembley TV.

The two-day event takes place on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 August simultaneously in Chelmsford and Staffordshire, with performances from some of music’s biggest artists, including TRAVIS, STEREOPHONICS, ALANIS MORISSETTE, CHEMICAL BROTHERS, BASEMENT JAXX, BADLY DRAWN BOY, ELVIS COSTELLO, IAN BROWN, SUPERGRASS and SUGABABES.

ITV2’s coverage is also to be sponsored by Virgin Mobile, as negotiated by Paul Masterson, ITV2 Sales Director at Granada Enterprises Granada and Vicky Williamson at Manning Gottlieb OMD Ltd.

ITV2 will carry 10 hours of coverage over two consecutive days, on Sunday 18 August (from 7.30pm) and Monday 19 August (from 8.30pm). The programme will be made by Fuji International Productions. Executive producer is Richard Leyland.

Daniela Neumann, ITV2’s head of programmes, said: “V2002 with its long list of top bands is one of the most exciting music festivals of the year, which is why we’re dedicating 10 hours of coverage to it. It’s perfect for ITV2’s target 16-34 year old audience, and to have secured Virgin Mobile as broadcast sponsors is a great bonus to our scooping the UK rights to the event.”

James Kydd, brand director of Virgin Mobile, said: "As title sponsors of V2002, we are delighted that the V Festival will be receiving significant coverage on ITV2. It is a great festival which has consistently been credited with having the 'line up of the year'. If you're not one of the lucky 120,000 who will be attending, at least this year you won't miss out on all the fun!"
