Virgin Mobile gets exclusive with the Sony Ericsson R600

09/10/2002

Virgin Mobile, the UK’s consumer network, today announces it is the only network to add the new, small and light Sony Ericsson R600 to its range of pre-pay or pay monthly phones. At just £99.99 this neat silver and grey phone is both affordable and stylish.

The phone boasts smart caller ID lighting, so it can tell you whether it’s friends, family or work colleagues ringing. If that’s not enough, at just 82g, customers who believe `size really does matter’ can take advantage of this little phone’s proportions as it will fit snugly inside a back pocket and won’t clutter up even the smallest handbag.

Text addicts can make use of the predictive text function, as well as send and receive picture messages. The phone also comes equipped with WAP and silent vibrate, three games and downloadable ringtones. Other functions include a clock/alarm and calendar.

The compact Sony Ericsson R600 can store up to 400 names and numbers in the phone book and will allow you to talk for up to 240 minutes before recharging the battery.

Virgin Mobile’s Product Marketing Manager, Jim Powell, said: “We are proud Virgin Mobile is the only network to have the Sony Ericsson R600 in its range because it’s such an affordable phone with so many uses. More people want a small phone that’s convenient to carry around, with its light-weight, clever coloured backlights and picture messaging, we’re confident customers will appreciate the R600’s handy size and functionality.”

The Sony Ericsson R600 costs £99.99, which includes connection to Virgin Mobile, whether customers choose to use pre-pay or pay monthly, and a £5 airtime credit to get customers started. The price also includes an Ericsson handsfree headset worth £14.99. It is available now on the Virgin Mobile network by calling 0845 6000 600, visiting www.virgin.com/mobile or on the high street at all Virgin Megastores and V.Shops. If customers buy direct from Virgin Mobile, over the phone or online, there is an extra £10 free airtime included.

Virgin Mobile has no contract to sign, and lets customers ‘pay any way they want’ – by topping up with credit or debit card, with top-up vouchers, by E Top Up or paying monthly with direct debit. There is no line rental, and one simple tariff applies, with standard calls charged at 15p/min for the first 5 minutes of use each day, then 5p/min after that. Virgin Mobile also offers a ‘Big Bonus’ to any registered customer spending £30 or more on calls in a month – they get 10% of their monthly spend as an airtime credit the following month.
