Virgin Mobile today announced that it is a major sponsor of the Mardi Gras Organisation’s Pride in the Park, for the second year running. The event, which is Britain’s largest gay, lesbian and bisexual festival, will take place in London’s Hyde Park, for the first time in the event’s 30 year history, which takes place on Saturday 26th July 2003.
Virgin Mobile will once again be entering a float into the Pride Parade, which this year will start at Victoria Embankment, travel past the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street, through central London and finishing in Hyde Park.
Pride in the Park will also see the return of the Virgin Mobile Red Light Cabaret Club, a hugely popular attraction at last year’s event, which hosted the cream of the UK’s most talented cabaret performers. There will also be a return of the bushes, which were supplied by Virgin Mobile to liven up the Hackney Marshes landscape last year, and which provided a very popular area for recreation and socialising!
The event, which is expected to attract more than 60,000 festival-goers, will be hosting a range of top names on its rock and pop stage, where festival-goers will be able to waitch acts from a specially built open air auditorium.
James Kydd, brand director at Virgin Mobile said: “We are delighted that finally sense has prevailed regarding the venue, and that at last Pride can be held in the central London venue it deserves. It is great news for the organisers who have worked so hard campaigning for Hyde Park, great news for us to be involved with Pride in what will be its best year yet, and of course it’s great news for the 60,000 festival-goers who are going to have a fantastic day!”
