Virgin Mobile has today reported record first quarter sales, with the first three months of 2003 seeing 253,200 people join its award-winning network.
As at 31.03.03 the total number of Virgin Mobile customers in the UK stood at 2,637,112.
The company’s turnover during the first three months of 2003 exceeded one million pounds a day, with total revenues in 2003 expected to top £400 million. This is an increase on 2002’s turnover of £288m. The average revenue per user for Virgin Mobile customers stands at £136, one of the highest prepay ARPUs in the industry.
Virgin Mobile’s Sir Richard Branson said: “Once again Virgin Mobile has proven itself to be a record-breaker with more than a quarter of a million new customers joining our service in the first three months of this year. We will attract our three-millionth customer during 2003 – a fantastic achievement for a company that is only three years old.
“Not only is Virgin Mobile going great guns as a network in its own right, we are also a major contributor to our network partner T-Mobile’s UK customer base. I believe that we now account for more than 20% of their total network base, and contribute approximately 25% of SMS traffic on the network, which is a reflection of how appealing the Virgin Mobile brand is to Britain’s youth.”
Virgin Mobile recently filed its accounts for 2002 at Companies House. They showed Virgin Mobile earned £16 million EBITDA and made an operating profit of £5 million during the past year.
