Sir Richard Branson today announced that Virgin Mobile aims to create 400 new jobs at its Middlesbrough customer centre. The centre, managed by Garlands Call Centres currently has over 100 staff, and expects to employ 200 people by the end of the year. During 2004, the number of staff is expected to reach 400.
The statement, which will be made by Sir Richard at the official opening of the company’s second customer centre, is the latest in a series of key milestones for Virgin Mobile. The company recently announced profitable results for 2002, along with its best ever first quarter sales figures, with more than 253,000 net connections – a gain that outclassed its rivals.
Since its launch in November 1999, Virgin Mobile has become the UK’s fastest-growing network and, unlike many other operators, is thriving at an uncertain time in the telecoms market. With more than 1,500 employees situated at four sites around the UK and over 2.6 million customers, this recruitment drive further highlights the company’s success both as a `virtual operator’ and as a consumer champion. Earlier this year, Virgin Mobile was voted one of the Top 50 Places to Work in the UK, coming 22nd in an annual Financial Times survey.
Virgin Mobile’s Sir Richard Branson said: “We are delighted to have opened a Virgin Mobile customer centre in Middlesbrough, and are really pleased with results so far. Giving great customer service is vital to us, and I’m thrilled to announce that our service levels have improved substantially since we went live here last month. We aim to keep recruiting throughout this year and next, creating up to 400 jobs in the region, to help Virgin Mobile expand and keep our customers happy. I am excited to be here today to welcome our new recruits at Garlands to Virgin Mobile.”
