AND THE WINNER OF THE ‘VIRGIN MOBILE LOUDER ROAD TO V’ COMPETITION IS…
…10,000 THINGS
New band ‘10,000 Things’ get their big break thanks to Virgin Mobile
Last month some of the UK’s hottest new bands performed at the Carling Academy Islington in an attempt to get themselves on the ‘Virgin Mobile Louder Road to V’, and get the chance to play onstage at this year’s V Festival 2004, sponsored by Virgin Mobile.
The gigs were given airplay on T4 Holiday Morning shows in July and August. Each band got their own slot and viewers were asked to text in reviews of each different band. A panel of music industry judges then considered each review and the band that proved most popular won!
The winners, 10,000 Things, will be officially announced on T4 on Friday 20th August and will be interviewed by Vernon Kay during a V Festival: Preview show on E4 and Channel 4. The winning band will get a once in a lifetime opportunity to open the V Festival on the NME stage at Hylands Park, Chelmsford on Saturday 21st August, and Weston Park, Staffordshire, on Sunday 22nd August.
5 things you should know about 10,000 Things:
- Anyone who has witnessed 10,000 Things live show will be aware that this is a group like no other. Peppered with off-the-cuff rants about bosses, tight-fisted landlords and the lure of trophy girlfriends, it’s rock’n’roll in the raw; music aimed at both the head and the feet
- God is on their side as one of the bands first ever fans was the local vicar in Leeds. He allowed the band to practice for free in his church. It was cold, and the band practiced most of their songs in vicars robes
- Their singer Sam is a karaoke-loving fantasist, ever since he received a karaoke machine for his 14th birthday
- The entire group are in possession of Titanium Boxer Shorts a saying and song they have written which they say is the equivalent to the male chastity belt
- 10,000 Things have recorded with legendary producer Phil Brown, who has worked with everybody from Bob Marley to Led Zeppelin.
