16.05.06: Virgin Mobile announced today it is trialling an innovative way for gig-goers to interact with their favourite bands via ‘Bluecasting’. The company will Bluecast exclusive free content to gig-goers’ mobile phones at forthcoming gigs The trial will take place all this month at Carling Academy Brixton and over the next three nights 4000 Hard-Fi fans a night will be able to download free Hard-Fi wallpaper, photos of the band, and have the chance to win a signed copy of Hard-Fi’s new DVD and CD set, ‘In Operation’.
Bluecasting is a new marketing tool that delivers mobile content to today’s popular Bluetooth mobile phones. The content, transmitted over radio waves from a server installed at the venue, can be downloaded quickly at no cost to the customer within a 10-20 metre radius of the server.
Stephen Rogan, head of sponsorship at Virgin Mobile, said: “It is great to be able to enhance gig-goers’ experience by offering music and data content to them for free. It brings the band closer to their fans and adds an extra dimension to the night out.”
